Tinubu’s draconian policies will throw Nigeria into extreme authoritarian state – Igbo group

The AlaIgbo Development Foundation (ADF), an Igbo think-tank group, has warned President Bola Tinubu against plunging Nigeria into authoritarianism and totalitarianism. The group condemned the harassment and intimidation of civil society leaders, particularly the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, by security agencies.

The ADF accused President Tinubu of selling out to international capitalist cartels, leading to anti-people economic policies that have caused mass poverty and hunger. They called on the president to review his policies before it’s too late, stating that his administration’s actions constitute a major affront to Nigeria’s democracy.

The group supports the opposition against Tinubu’s economic policies, acknowledging the labour movement as the only strong banner of opposition. They also condemned the invasion of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Projects (SERAP) office in Abuja by security agencies.

The ADF believes that Nigeria’s democracy cannot be consolidated under horrible economic policies that traumatize the masses with poverty and pestilence. They urged President Tinubu to reverse his policies and avoid plunging Nigeria into another era of extreme authoritarianism and totalitarianism.

The group’s statement comes amid growing concerns about the government’s handling of economic policies and its impact on the citizens. The call for policy review and an end to intimidation and harassment of civil society leaders highlights the need for a more inclusive and people-friendly approach to governance.
