Flood ; FG disburse N3bn to Each State to Tackle Disaster

Following devastating flooding in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the Federal Government of Nigeria has approved N3 billion for each state to address various natural disasters. Vice President Kashim Shettima announced this significant financial support, emphasizing the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to collaborate with state governments in tackling the challenges posed by floods and other natural calamities.

During a recent meeting in Abuja with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who visited to express his condolences regarding the flooding disaster, Shettima described the situation in Borno as a national calamity impacting the entire country. He noted that the floods are a result of the complex interplay between climate change, ecology, and economic factors, affecting regions from Bayelsa to Sokoto.

Shettima reassured the public that with President Tinubu’s determination, solutions to flooding and related issues would soon be implemented. He highlighted the financial allocation of N3 billion to each state as a means to foster a sense of belonging and support for subnational governments in addressing these pressing challenges.

Abbas, in his remarks, conveyed his sympathy for the victims and assured them that the National Assembly would seek ways to provide additional support to those affected by the floods. He expressed solidarity with the people of Borno, promising that measures would be taken to help them return to normalcy.

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, after visiting flood-affected camps, described the situation as devastating and pledged to provide necessary relief to the victims. He assured them of proper care until the waters recede and they can return to their homes.

Prominent figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Senate Minority Caucus, have also expressed their condolences and support for the victims, urging the federal government to take urgent action to assist those displaced by the floods. This collective response underscores the need for immediate relief efforts to address the ongoing disaster and support affected communities across Nigeria.
