Edo Guber: Play by the rules – INEC tells political parties

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged political parties participating in the Edo governorship election to adhere to electoral guidelines. Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Edo State, made the call during an interactive session with traditional, religious, and political party leaders in Benin.

Onuoha emphasized the importance of informing electoral officers about campaign plans, monitoring campaigns to ensure compliance, and preventing destruction of billboards. He assured parties of a level playing field and announced the publication of the voters’ register on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the Edo Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Abudulazeez Igbinidu, commended INEC’s progress and urged the commission to address past election challenges. He also encouraged parties to abide by electoral guidelines for a credible and peaceful election.

INEC has configured BVAS devices and initiated logistics for the election. The Edo State Security Network will not be involved in election security. The commission aims to provide a peaceful, free, and credible governorship election.

The interactive session aimed to inform stakeholders about the election’s progress and ensure a successful and peaceful process. INEC’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to conducting a fair and transparent election in Edo State.
