Labour Party Faction Accuses INEC of Retribution, Claims Obi and Otti’s Betrayal
A faction of Nigeria’s Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, alleges that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is unfairly targeting them for supporting Peter Obi and Alex Otti in the 2023 elections.
At a media briefing, Abure’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, stated that Obi and Otti have betrayed the party’s principles. He claimed they are now working with INEC, which allegedly failed Nigerians by mishandling the 2023 elections.
Ifoh cited INEC’s counter affidavit, claiming the current executives’ tenure has expired, as justification for the disputed Umuahia stakeholders meeting. This meeting produced a 29-member caretaker committee, handpicked by Obi and Otti.
The faction believes INEC is being used to annex power and undermine the party’s leadership.
