Olumide Akpata, the governorship candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, has effectively exited the race following disappointing results from his polling unit.

The latest updates from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Viewing Portal (iRev) reveal that Akpata lost to his rival from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, at Polling Unit 11, Ward 6, Oredo Local Government Area.

The results from this polling unit show Ighodalo securing 41 votes, while Akpata trailed behind with only 32 votes. This loss has significant implications for Akpata’s campaign, as it reflects a broader trend in the ongoing elections.

As of now, over 89.93% of the results have been uploaded, covering 3,895 out of 4,519 polling units. Preliminary findings indicate that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is performing strongly in its traditional stronghold of Edo North, while the PDP is leading in Edo South.
