Kaduna PDP elects ex-commissioner as chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has elected Edward Masha, a former Commissioner of Water Resources, as its new chairman. Masha won with an impressive 2,123 votes, defeating Comrade Danjuma Bello Sarki who secured 250 votes. The election, which took place at the Kaduna Trade and Investment Centre, was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission, national PDP officers, and the media.

Other newly elected officials include:

  • Secretary: Saidu Adamu
  • State Woman Leader: Godiya Ayuba Lolo, who won with 2,102 votes
  • State Publicity Secretary: Mariya Dogo, a former member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, who polled 1,359 votes
  • Assistant Treasurer: Bronco, with 1,544 votes
  • Vice Chairman Central: Isman Ahmad Garba Garkuwa, with 2,299 votes
  • Financial Secretary: Aliyu Bello, the immediate past Youth Leader
  • Legal Adviser: Barrister Khalid Khalid

In his acceptance speech, Masha promised inclusive leadership and an open-door policy, aiming to reconcile party members and create an atmosphere where everyone feels included ¹. The outgoing chairman, Felix Hassan-Hyat, urged party members to support the new leadership to reclaim the party’s former glory and consolidate previous victories, particularly in the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for October 19.

It’s worth noting that Kaduna State has had notable politicians, including Ahmed Makarfi, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007 and later became a senator ¹. The current Executive Council of Kaduna State is led by Governor Uba Sani ².
