Opposition parties attack PDP chairman as CROSIEC unveils LG polls timetable

Cross River State’s opposition parties have criticized PDP Chairman Venatius Ikem following the release of the local government polls timetable by CROSIEC Chairman Dr. Ekong Edet Boco. Ikem’s disagreement with SDP Chairman Dr. Ekpenyong Ambo sparked a heated exchange, with other opposition leaders telling Ikem to keep quiet.

CROSIEC’s timetable includes:

• Party primaries and dispute resolution (September 25 – October 15)
• Campaigns (September 25 – October 25)
• Local government elections (October 26)

CROSIEC assured a level playing field for all registered parties, emphasizing the need for a peaceful environment. While most parties pledged participation, Ikem expressed reservations due to the hasty law amendment and sudden timetable release, suggesting PDP would participate “in protest.”
