The suspects, Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, and two others, were charged with criminal conspiracy to rob the banks, murder, and illegal possession of firearms.

Initially, six suspects were arrested, but Michael Adikwu died in police custody. The remaining five pleaded not guilty, and their trial began on November 11, 2018. After six years, Justice Salman finally delivered the verdict, sentencing the five suspects to death.
