The House of Representatives questioned officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) regarding allegations that Bobrisky, a controversial media personality, bribed them.

Bobrisky was convicted of naira abuse in April and served six months in prison. Allegations arose that he received preferential treatment and bribed officials to drop money laundering charges.

EFCC and NCoS officials denied the allegations. The EFCC stated that Bobrisky’s money laundering charges were dropped due to his guilty plea. NCoS insisted Bobrisky served his sentence at Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre, not in a private apartment.

A social media influencer, Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan), released an audio recording allegedly made by Bobrisky claiming bribery and preferential treatment. The Minister of Interior ordered a probe, and two NCoS officials were suspended.

During the hearing, Deputy Controller of Corrections Michael Anugwa explained Bobrisky’s separation from other inmates due to his unique features and refusal to eat prison rations. Anugwa denied allegations of bribery.

VeryDarkMan claimed he obtained the audio recording from someone who lent Bobrisky N4m. Bobrisky’s lawyer cited ill health for his absence, prompting the committee to request medical proof.

The EFCC urged the House to ensure corruption exposure and prosecution. The committee chairman requested the audio recorder’s presence at the next meeting.

The allegations and denials highlight ongoing concerns about corruption and preferential treatment within Nigeria’s justice system.
