The Nigerian Police have deployed security operatives to rescue 20 medical students kidnapped in Benue State. The students, from the University of Maiduguri and Jos, were abducted on Thursday evening while traveling to Enugu for a convention. The police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the deployment of officers in conjunction with other security agencies to ensure the students’ safe rescue.
The kidnapping occurred along the notorious Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu Road, known for criminal activity despite a heavy security presence. The area has seen numerous kidnappings, including prominent individuals and road users.
The police are working to rescue the students, and the incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria. The deployment of security operatives aims to ensure the students’ safe return and address the broader issue of criminality in the region.
