Why Kanu’s release’ll save Nigeria from collapse — Igbo group

The United States Military Veterans of Igbo Descent has called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and a return to Nigeria’s 1960/63 regional autonomy to address socio-economic and security issues. In a letter, the group stated that Kanu’s 2017 demands, including airport upgrades and industry revival, were ignored, leading to continued unrest. The group emphasized that restructuring Nigeria along 1960-1963 lines is the only way to mitigate the country’s problems and prevent collapse. They cited the late Prof. Ben Nwabueze’s support for restructuring and Kanu’s willingness to consent to it. The group condemned the Nigerian government’s actions, including the killing of 28 people at Kanu’s home and the detention of Biafrans, leading to loss of life. They urged the release of Kanu and restructuring to prevent further chaos.
