Basketmouth Speaks Out on Nigeria’s Economic Hardship
Famous Nigerian comedian Basketmouth expressed his frustration with the country’s economic situation and leadership in a recent interview with AFRIMMA.
He cited the rising inflation and depreciation of the naira since 1970, questioning the effectiveness of government policies. Basketmouth noted that the naira’s value has consistently dropped, from one naira to a dollar in 1970 to N1600 to one dollar today.
The comedian criticized the increase in passport prices, suggesting it’s a tactic to exploit suffering Nigerians. “I suspect that our government planned to make the Nigerian population suffer… then they will increase the price of the passport to make more money,” he said.
Basketmouth’s comments reflect widespread dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s economic situation. Many Nigerians face challenges due to:
- Rising inflation
- Currency depreciation
- Increased costs of living
While acknowledging his skepticism, Basketmouth hopes for a better future. “It’s not like I have given up hope, I’m hopeful maybe one day, the country will be better.”
