Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, warned developers against building on waterways, citing it as a major contributor to flooding. During an inspection of flood-affected areas in Ado Ekiti, Oyebanji emphasized the need to desist from actions sabotaging government’s flood-control efforts.
The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, sympathized with victims, mostly students, and donated food palliatives. He highlighted the state’s investments in flood control measures, including dredging and channelizing rivers.
Oyebanji stressed that some flooding issues can be prevented by avoiding indiscriminate blocking of drainages and building on waterways. National Emergency Management Agency and Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency officials will visit affected areas for enumeration and documentation.
