Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has addressed the controversy surrounding her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) certificate. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Musawa maintained she did nothing wrong.
The issue began when Musawa failed to provide evidence of participating in the mandatory NYSC scheme during her Senate screening in 2023. Despite this, she was confirmed as minister. A subsequent court case challenging her appointment was dismissed in April 2024 due to lack of locus standi.
Musawa stated, “The fact that I’m here means I didn’t do anything wrong.” She added that she has done “at least two NYSCs” in her life but declined to provide further clarification, citing varying accounts on social media.
