Obasanjo blames Nigeria’s underdevelopment stagnation on selfish leaders

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has attributed Nigeria’s stagnation to selfish leadership lacking relevant knowledge. He made this statement while attending the Leadership Empowerment International Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Obasanjo emphasized that leadership is a lasting virtue that endures until the end of one’s life and that once the issue of poor leadership is resolved, all other things will fall into place.

He described Nigeria’s current leadership as “self-centered” and lacking in knowledge and understanding. Obasanjo stressed that leadership must rise to its responsibilities to create a better world for all Nigerians. He highlighted the importance of effective leadership in Africa, stating that without it, the continent cannot create a future of hope, prosperity, and security.

Obasanjo’s comments come as Nigeria faces challenges such as insecurity, hunger, and volatility. He emphasized the need for leadership that views service as its core responsibility and encouraged the instillation of good leadership at every level of national life.
