The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has denied allegations that it is using funds meant for contractors to finance the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign in Edo State. In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the commission described the reports as “false” and “fake news”.

The NDDC stated that it has a clear mandate to fast-track the development of the Niger Delta region and improve the lives of its people, which the present board and management are determined to achieve. The commission emphasized that it does not sponsor political parties or candidates contesting elections.

The statement read: “We are aware of reports circulating online claiming that NDDC is diverting funds intended for contractors to finance the Edo APC governorship campaign. Nothing can be farther from the truth… We do not sponsor political parties or candidates contesting in elections at any level of government.”

The NDDC urged the public to disregard the “fake news” and emphasized its commitment to its mandate. The commission also expressed concern that the source of the alleged diversion of funds is unknown, describing it as a “rumour”.
