Edo Election: Six Parties Agree to Inspect Electoral Materials
Six political parties involved in the Edo State governorship election have agreed to jointly inspect electoral materials despite the initial disagreement between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The inspection, initially scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed due to clashes between the APC and PDP over the process. The PDP advocated for starting with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines, while the APC insisted on beginning with the voters’ register as ordered by the tribunal.
In a joint statement, the parties announced that the inspection would take place on Monday, October 14, at 11 am. The parties involved include:
- African Action Congress (AAC)
- Action Peoples Party (APP)
- Boot Party (BP)
- New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)
- All Progressives Congress (APC)
- Zenith Party (ZP)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denied allegations by the APC that BVAS machines and voters’ registers were smuggled into the INEC office by PDP members. INEC stated that the allegations were baseless and unsubstantiated.
Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Anugbum Onuoha assured that the electoral materials’ integrity remains intact and that INEC is committed to transparency and neutrality.
The commission is prepared to facilitate the inspection process, ensuring adherence to the rule of law and democratic principles.
