Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the immediate payment of the new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the state. This means the least paid worker will receive a minimum of N70,000, with the possibility of earning up to N78,000 to N84,000 depending on the government’s tabulation ¹ ² ³.
The governor announced this after a meeting with labor leaders at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia. Soludo also approved a monthly cash award of N10,000 for all pensioners until their pension salaries are reviewed. He expressed empathy for pensioners who are often overlooked amidst discussions of the new minimum wage.
In addition to the wage increase, Soludo pledged to enhance security in the state by providing hundreds of security vehicles for vigilante groups and other agencies. He urged workers to consider the contributory pension scheme to avoid pension-related issues.
The Nigeria Labour Congress Chairman, Humphrey Nwafor, praised Soludo for his “worker-friendly” approach and requested continued support for Anambra workers. Notably, the governor donated land for the construction of the NLC state Secretariat, known as Workers House, a project that had been impossible since Anambra’s creation in 1991 ¹.
