The judgment followed a suit filed by the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the CBN to continue paying allocations to Rivers State local governments.
ALDRAP argued that the judgment only applies to the state government, not local councils, which recently gained financial autonomy.
Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara plans to appeal the decision.
