Ruben Amorim Joins Manchester United After ‘Now or Never’ Ultimatum
Manchester United has appointed Ruben Amorim as its new manager, signing a deal until 2027.
Amorim, 39, revealed that United told him it was “now or never” and he had only three days to decide.
He leaves Sporting Lisbon, where he won two league titles, and will join United on November 11.
Amorim said he rejected other offers, including one worth three times his United salary.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain interim manager until Amorim’s arrival.
United described Amorim as “one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.”
Amorim’s first game will be away at Ipswich on November 24.
Former United defender Rio Ferdinand praised Amorim’s “character and charisma.”
Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday, thanked United fans and wished the club success.
