Unify all civil service salaries — SDP Chairman Gabam challenges Tinubu

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) national chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to standardize civil servants’ salaries nationwide. Gabam criticized the practice of paying bribes up to N3,000,000 to secure employment in certain agencies, calling it “barbarism”. He noted that parents struggle to train their children, only to face further financial burdens to secure jobs for them.

Gabam highlighted the salary disparity among federal agencies, where some receive higher pay than others, despite working for the same government. He cited examples of “juicy” ministries like NNPCL and NPA, where employees earn superior salaries compared to those in the Ministry of Information and other agencies.

Gabam emphasized that this discrimination in salary scales is unfair and urged the government to unify salaries. He argued that parents should not have to struggle to get their children employed in specific agencies due to higher salaries. Instead, every ministry should be considered equal, and salaries should be standardized.

The SDP chairman’s call for salary unification aims to address corruption, inequality, and inefficiency in the civil service. By standardizing salaries, the government can promote fairness, reduce corruption, and encourage talented individuals to work in various ministries and agencies, ultimately benefiting the nation.

Gabam’s statement was made during the SDP’s International Youth Day Celebration 2024 in Abuja, where he emphasized the need for a more equitable system. He encouraged citizens to fight for their rights and demand a unified salary structure for civil servants.
