The Lagos Mass Transit Red Line Rail will begin partial operations on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with free test runs for passengers. The trains will operate four trips daily between Oyingbo and Agbado, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) spokesperson, Kolawole Ojelabi.
This marks a significant milestone in the project’s development, following planning, training, and a successful six-week trial run without passengers. The partial operations aim to collect feedback from passengers before commencing commercial operations.
The Red Line, one of six rail lines and one monorail in Lagos’ Strategic Transport Master Plan, connects Lagos with Ogun State, providing a reliable and affordable transportation option for commuters. The first phase, a 27-kilometer rail road from Agbado to Oyingbo, will reduce traffic congestion and improve the quality of life for Lagos residents.
