Ondo 2024: Mimiko’s aides, associates defect to APC

In a significant political move, 29 chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the November 16 governorship election. The defectors, who include former high-ranking officials in the Olusegun Mimiko administration, announced their decision in a joint statement titled “We Have Joined the APC.”

The statement listed the defectors, who include a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Jumoke Akindele, and three former members of the House of Representatives: Joseph Akinlaja, Victor Akinjo, and Chief Alaba Ojomo. They cited their reasons for joining the APC as the desire to support the election of Hon. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa as Governor of Ondo State, to contribute to the state’s prosperity and peace, and to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address national challenges.

The defectors, who have resigned from the PDP, aim to be part of the APC’s efforts to reposition Ondo State for continuous prosperity and peace. Their move is seen as a significant boost to the APC’s chances in the upcoming governorship election. The defectors’ decision reflects their confidence in the APC’s ability to address the state’s and nation’s challenges, and their desire to be part of the solution.
