presidential poll that produced Tinubu free, fair, credible, INEC insists

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed claims of discrepancies in the 2023 presidential election results, stating that the official results presented by returning officers at the National Collation Centre are authentic. INEC responded to allegations by the Centre for Collaborative Investigative Journalism (CCIJ) regarding differences between results announced on YouTube and those uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) platform.

INEC clarified that there were no contradictions in the video clips of returning officers presenting results, and party agents did not raise any objections. The commission also explained that results may be cancelled due to specific reasons like violence, over-voting, or refusal to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

INEC maintained that the total number of polling units and registered voters remains as announced, and the comprehensive 468-page report of the 2023 general election, released in March 2024, addresses the raised questions. The commission advised the centre to refer to its website for detailed information.

The commission reiterated that the results of the 2023 presidential election presented by returning officers are official and authentic, dismissing any claims of discrepancies.
