The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has demobilized 54 fake graduates from the University of Calabar, preventing them from receiving Certificates of National Service. The move aims to prevent unqualified individuals from benefiting from the scheme.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, disclosed that 19 of the individuals had registered online for mobilization, while four others had their certificates withheld. The NYSC had previously invalidated certificates of 101 fake graduates from the same university.
The University’s Pro-Chancellor commended the NYSC for exposing the fake graduates and pledged to take action against staff involved. The NYSC DG praised the University’s Vice-Chancellor for reporting the illegal mobilizations and emphasized the need for integrity in the mobilization process.
The NYSC will intensify its collaboration with educational institutions and stakeholders to prevent fake mobilizations. Employers are also urged to verify the authenticity of Certificates of National Service presented by job applicants. This move aims to maintain the integrity of the NYSC scheme and prevent unqualified individuals from benefiting.
