NMA writes IGP, seeks urgent rescue of abducted medical students

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in the abduction of 20 medical students. The students, from the University of Jos and University of Maiduguri, were kidnapped while traveling to a conference in Enugu. The NMA Secretary-General, Dr. Benjamin Egbo, expressed deep concern for the students’ safety and well-being, and requested prompt action to secure their release.

The association offered assistance and support to facilitate the police efforts in rescuing the abducted students. The IGP has ordered the deployment of tactical operatives and assets to ensure the prompt rescue of the kidnapped medical students. The incident occurred between Otukpo and Enugu in Benue State, and one of the abducted students managed to share their location via Google Maps, indicating they were in the Oglewu Ehaje area.

The NMA’s urgent call for action highlights the gravity of the situation and the need for swift intervention to ensure the students’ safe return.
