The Kano State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the alleged scandal involving the procurement of medical supplies for the 44 local governments in the state. The party also called for the freezing of the local government councils’ accounts to prevent further misuse of resources.
The APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, stated that the governor’s admission of unawareness about the irregularities indicates a lack of control or capacity to lead the state. He described the directive to the state’s Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the matter as “laughable” due to the chairman’s partisan and compromised track record.
The APC highlighted several other financial allegations involving the state government, its officials, and appointees, including the diversion of palliatives, sale of properties, and missing funds. The party questioned the motives of Kano APC leaders who consistently seek court injunctions to block investigations into their activities.
In response, the State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, praised the governor for directing an immediate investigation into the drug supply contract and assured that the administration is committed to accountability and punishing any misdemeanors. He hinted at calls for the state government to investigate the former first lady’s alleged misuse of local government funds.
