The Enugu State Government has received 26,330 applications for 6,000 smart school job slots, with the assessment process currently underway. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, stated that the exercise aims to raise the bar of education in the state by recruiting qualified teachers. The assessment evaluates candidates’ subject area competency, basic digital literacy proficiency, English language, and General Mathematics.
The process is bias-free and standardized, with all teachers in Enugu State required to apply. The successful candidates will undergo six months of intensive training before being posted to smart schools. The government aims to capture at least 12,000 teachers in two phases, with the goal of having 10,000 qualified teachers for the smart schools.
The Commissioner emphasized that teaching is a profession that requires skill and knowledge, and the government is committed to ensuring that only qualified candidates are recruited. He ruled out the possibility of politicians hijacking the process, stressing that the governor believes in excellence.
Non-indigenes of the state are also eligible to apply and will be considered based on merit. The government’s initiative aims to provide quality education to children in Enugu State, comparable to that found in developed parts of the world.
