President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of new Directors-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) following the resignation of their predecessors. Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed takes over as the Director-General of the NIA, while Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi assumes the role for the DSS.
Ambassador Mohammed brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having embarked on a distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995. His career trajectory includes various roles, culminating in his promotion to Director and subsequently serving as the head of the Nigerian mission in Libya. A graduate of Bayero University, Kano, class of 1990, he has also held positions in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja.
On the other hand, Mr. Adeola Ajayi has demonstrated significant dedication and expertise throughout his career, rising to the rank of Assistant Director-General of the DSS. He has held key positions as State Director in several states, including Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi, showcasing his extensive knowledge of the country’s security landscape.
In his directive to the new security chiefs, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of their roles in enhancing the effectiveness of the NIA and DSS. He urged them to leverage their experience to address Nigeria’s pressing security challenges through improved collaboration with sister agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The President expressed gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors. The appointments signal a renewed commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence capabilities in the face of ongoing security threats.
