Imo Govt moves against developers operating without approval

The Imo State Government has taken action against developers operating without approval, following reports of individuals and companies encroaching on land using the government’s name. The Imo State Geographic Information Service (IGIS) has issued a press release warning developers and the public that only approved private layout plans issued by relevant authorities are valid.

The IGIS Director General, Chukwunyere Amaechi, stated that no private layout planning approvals have been issued for certain areas, including Ngor Okpala/Airport Road axis and Obinze/Army Barracks/Umuokanne/Oforola axis. Amaechi emphasized that developers must comply with state planning laws and applicable neighborhood or unitary development plans to avoid risking investors and the public.

The agency advised the public to demand copies of approved private layout plans from developers or alert them through their customer service number. Planning officers will visit locations to enforce compliance. The IGIS reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring due process and adherence to state planning laws.
