Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has continued his war of words with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, asking him to wait till 2031 if he wants to contest the presidency again. George insists that a Southerner must occupy the presidency for eight years since the North finished its uninterrupted eight-year tenure.
George pointed out that Atiku will be 81 years old in 2027 and should allow younger generations to run for the highest office. He emphasized the need for the PDP to respect the principles of zoning and rotation, as enshrined in the party’s constitution since 1998.
George stated that he has nothing personal against Atiku but believes that the truth must be told. He cited the example of US President Joe Biden stepping down for Kamala Harris to contest the presidential election, saying that Atiku should do the same.
The PDP should field a Southerner as presidential candidate in 2027 to wrest power from the APC, George said. He emphasized that he is not being tribalistic, citing his friendship with Fulani people and his service to the Military.
