2027: North should back Tinubu, says Sani

Former Senator Shehu Sani has weighed in on the debate surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Sani believes that the North should support Tinubu’s re-election, citing his past support for the region. He noted that Tinubu’s alliance with President Muhammadu Buhari helped him win the presidency, and now it’s time for the North to reciprocate.

Sani suggested that Tinubu’s camp focus on good governance, addressing insecurity, poverty, and education in the North to ensure his re-election. He emphasized that the desperation of some northern political elites to return to power is driven by personal reasons, not the interest of the North.

Sani also noted that Tinubu could win re-election without the full support of the North, as he did in the previous election. However, he hopes that the political elite in the North will respect the principle of rotation of power and allow the South to complete their 8 years in office before the North produces the president in 2031.

Sani’s comments come as the debate surrounding Tinubu’s re-election bid continues to gain momentum. While some argue that he should be allowed to run for a second term, others believe that it’s time for the North to produce the president. Sani’s suggestion that the North should support Tinubu’s re-election is likely to spark further debate on the issue.
