The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly robbing three commercial sex workers in Surulere, Lagos. The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, were arrested on August 28, 2024, for their involvement in the crime.
According to the police, the suspects picked up the sex workers on Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Bode Thomas, on August 23, 2024, and pretended to drive them to a location. However, they stopped the vehicle midway and robbed the sex workers of their valuables, including iPhones and a Redmi Note 12, worth a total of N1.88 million.
The suspects also coerced the victims into transferring additional N33,000 to a single account provided by them during the incident. The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the victims recognized the suspects and reported the incident.
During the investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime, and one of the victim’s phones, a Redmi Note 13, a Toyota Camry, and two blank plates used in their operations were recovered.
This incident is not an isolated case, as there have been previous reports of robbers targeting sex workers in Lagos and Ogun States. In 2018, a gang of robbers was arrested for stealing from sex workers in Ogun State and selling the stolen items to other sex workers in Lagos.
The police are working to address these incidents and ensure the safety of all individuals, including sex workers. The arrested suspects will face justice for their crimes.
