Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday, August 30, 2024, when a Sienna space bus collided with a moving truck, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuring three others. The accident occurred around 7:40 am at Verony, Ogere Remo, and was attributed to excessive speed by the bus driver, who lost control and rammed into the truck.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) responded to the scene, and the injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention. The corpses were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara. The truck driver fled the scene without stopping.
FRSC spokesperson Florence Okpe stated that the crash was avoidable if the driver had exercised caution and obeyed traffic rules. The Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, commiserated with the families of the victims and urged motorists to concentrate on driving and follow traffic regulations.
This incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be vigilant and cautious on the highways. It also underscores the need for enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such avoidable accidents.
