D’banj, a renowned Nigerian singer, has revealed the inspiration behind sampling some of his hit songs in his latest album, “The Entertainer D’ Sequel”. In an exclusive interview, D’banj explained that most of his albums were released before the digital era, prompting him to revisit and sample some of his iconic tracks.
With the 20th anniversary of his debut approaching, D’banj felt pressure to complete the album by December last year. However, he ended up creating new tracks in January and February instead.
The album features a mix of old and new, including “Serious”, an Afropop version of Busta Rhymes’ “Dangerous”, as well as collaborations with Awilo Logomba, Wyclef Jean, Peruzzi, Akon, Phyno, and Youssou N’dour.
D’banj’s decision to sample his hit songs is a nod to his legacy and a way to introduce his classic tracks to a new generation of music lovers. The album promises to be an exciting blend of nostalgia and fresh talent, solidifying D’banj’s position as a music icon in Nigeria and beyond.
