Ex-beauty queen declared wanted for drug offence surrenders to NDLEA

Former beauty queen, Oluwadamilola Aderinoye, has surrendered to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after being declared wanted for eight months. Aderinoye, who was Miss Commonwealth Nigeria Culture in 2015/2016, was accused of hiding after NDLEA operatives raided her apartment in Lekki, Lagos, on January 24, 2024. The agency recovered 606 grammes of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, and other items from her home.

Aderinoye claimed she had been hiding in Akure, Ondo State, since January and surrendered to the agency on August 28. The NDLEA also announced the seizure of tramadol pills and codeine-based syrup worth over N17.9 billion at the Port Harcourt Port Complex and Tincan seaport in Lagos. The agency intercepted 350,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 447 cartons of tramadol pills at the ports.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives arrested several suspects, including Eze Emekan Don, who attempted to board a flight to Malabo with 1,490 pills of tramadol concealed in his luggage. Other suspects were arrested in Lagos, Niger State, and Bauchi State for transporting cannabis and other psychoactive substances.

The NDLEA’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria have led to significant seizures and arrests in recent months. The agency’s actions aim to reduce the availability of illicit substances and promote a safer society.
