Abia to train 2,000 teachers, beef up security in schools

The Abia State Government has announced plans to train 2,000 master trainers for teachers in the state. The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this during a press briefing on the outcome of the executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti. Already, 200 teachers have undergone training, while the remaining 1,800 will soon follow.

The government has also begun posting security personnel to public schools to safeguard lives and property. This move is part of the state’s broader agenda to reform the education system. Additionally, 5,746 ASUBEB staff have been earmarked for promotion to motivate them for greater productivity.

Under the Abia State School Enhancement Team program, 40 teachers have been screened to ensure quality assurance and compliance with school guidelines. The state government will also commission the newly upgraded eye center at Amachara on September 3, 2024.
