Barrister Daniel Bwala, a former aide to ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack two top ministers, Mohammed Badaru, the minister of defense, and Bello Matawalle, the minister of state for defense. Bwala made this call on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, citing the alleged lack of cooperation between the air force and army, which led to the seizure of a military armored vehicle by armed groups in Zamfara state.
Bwala described the incident as a “schoolboy error” and attributed it to the ministers’ failure to ensure effective coordination between the military branches. He emphasized that if such errors continue, the ministers may need to be replaced to prevent further security lapses.
This call for the ministers’ sack comes amidst reports of President Tinubu’s plan to reshuffle his cabinet to ease out underperforming ministers. Debo Adeniran, the executive director of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, has also supported the rumored plan, listing some underperforming ministers, including Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, and Sa’id Ahmed Alkali, minister of transportation.
The security challenges facing the Tinubu administration are significant, and the call for the ministers’ sack highlights the need for effective leadership and coordination to address these challenges. However, it remains to be seen whether President Tinubu will heed this call and take action against the ministers.
