Terrorism financing: Police to grill Ajaero Sept 25

The scheduled interrogation of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero by the police did not hold on Thursday as Ajaero and NLC Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja failed to appear. The labour leaders were invited for questioning over allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.

A source revealed that Ajaero and Ugboaja had written to the investigators, stating they would not be available on Thursday and would appear on September 25 instead. Their counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), confirmed that they had requested a postponement due to Ajaero’s engagement outside Abuja.

The police are investigating Ajaero’s alleged link to a Briton, Andrew Wynne, accused of financing the recent #EndBadGovernance protest to overthrow the government. Ajaero was first invited for questioning on August 29, and the police had requested his appearance again on Thursday, along with Ugboaja.

The police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, promised to provide an update on the situation but had not done so at the time of filing the report. The NLC leaders’ non-appearance may lead to further developments in the investigation, which has sparked concerns about the government’s handling of labour issues and allegations of terrorism financing.
