President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate evacuation of residents in communities affected by the devastating floods in Borno State. The President expressed deep concern over the flooding in parts of Maiduguri, the state capital, and directed relevant government agencies to expedite rescue efforts.
In a statement, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President has pledged federal support to address the humanitarian needs of the affected people. The National Emergency Management Agency has been ordered to assist flood victims.
The flooding, caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam, has displaced thousands of residents, with government facilities, including a post office and the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, affected. A cemetery and a zoo have also been overrun, with wild animals seeking safety.
Tinubu extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly families who have lost their livelihoods due to the disaster. He assured Governor Babagana Zulum of federal collaboration to address the immediate needs of the affected people.
The President remains committed to mobilizing federal resources to support the state during this challenging time. The situation in Borno State is being closely monitored, and all necessary measures are being taken to mitigate the effects of the flooding.
