President Bola Tinubu has approved the 2024 National Honours Award to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development. The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zaphaniah Jisalo, announced that the award will acknowledge Nigerians who have excelled in various fields and friends of the country who have made notable contributions.
The nomination and selection process will be transparent, with no charges imposed at any stage. The public will soon be invited to submit nominations for individuals who have distinguished themselves by contributing to the nation’s progress, in accordance with the National Honours Award Act 2004.
The Act, which took retrospective effect in 1963, guides the criteria for bestowing the prestigious awards. The minister emphasized that the forms and processes leading to the award of national honors are free of charge and warned against fraudulent schemes related to the honors.
This development highlights the government’s effort to recognize and reward individuals who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s development. The transparent nomination and selection process ensures that deserving individuals are recognized and honored for their achievements.
The 2024 National Honours Award is an opportunity for Nigerians to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of their fellow citizens who have made a positive impact on the country. It also serves as a motivation for others to strive for excellence in their various fields of endeavor.
