Yakubu noted that the commission’s preparations began last year with the release of the election timetable and schedule of activities. Out of the 13 statutory activities listed, 11 have been concluded. He also disclosed that 184,438 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were delivered to Edo State, bringing the total number of registered voters to 2,629,025.

The INEC chairman emphasized the importance of cooperation from stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, accredited observers, and the media. He also announced that the Inspector-General of Police would address the meeting on security preparations for the election.

Yakubu’s assurance comes as the commission faces calls to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election. Various groups, including the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and youths in the state, have urged INEC to be above board in its conduct of the election.

With the election just days away, INEC’s readiness is crucial to ensuring a credible and peaceful process. The commission’s efforts to engage stakeholders and provide updates on its preparations demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability.

As Edo State prepares for the governorship election, all eyes are on INEC to deliver on its promise of a free, fair, and peaceful poll. The outcome of the election will depend on the commission’s ability to maintain its independence and impartiality, ensuring that the will of the people is reflected in the results.
