A suspect has been named in connection with the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump ¹. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was identified as the alleged would-be assassin. He was arrested after Secret Service agents opened fire on him near Trump’s Florida golf course, where the former president was golfing. Routh had been hiding in the shrubbery and escaped in a black car before being tracked down by authorities.
Routh, a self-employed affordable housing builder from Hawaii, has an arrest record spanning decades and has regularly posted on politics and current events, including criticism of Trump. He had also expressed support for Ukraine’s fight against the Russian invasion, saying he was willing to volunteer and fight.
This incident is not the first attempt on Trump’s life. On July 13, 2024, Trump survived an assassination attempt while speaking at an open-air campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania. He was shot and wounded in his upper right ear by Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle before being killed by the Secret Service’s Counter Sniper Team ¹.
