Imo LG Polls: 15 Political Parties Threaten Boycott Over Alleged ISIEC Rigging Plot
In Imo State, Nigeria, over 15 political parties under the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) have threatened to boycott the September 21 Local Government Area elections. The parties allege that the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) is planning to rig the polls.
IPAC Chairman, Ichie Levi Ekeh, expressed dissatisfaction with ISIEC’s failure to follow electoral guidelines. He cited anomalies, including:
- Not issuing forms to candidates as promised
- Not conducting validation exercises 20 days before elections
- Failing to list Ad-hoc staff for elections
Ekeh warned that IPAC would not participate in the elections if ISIEC continues to disregard guidelines.
“We want things done rightly. ISIEC should sit up and do what is right if it wants us to be part of the LG elections.”
ISIEC’s actions have sparked concerns about the legitimacy of the polls.
Key Concerns:
- Alleged rigging plot
- Failure to follow electoral guidelines
- Lack of transparency in election preparations
