The Nigerian Air Force has started airlifting election materials to Edo State for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024. This effort aims to ensure the timely and secure delivery of sensitive materials necessary for the smooth conduct of the elections ¹.
According to Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, the airlifting demonstrates the collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This partnership is crucial for facilitating logistics and ensuring a peaceful election process in Edo State.
In fact, this isn’t the first time INEC has sought the Nigerian Air Force’s support. Previously, INEC requested assistance to airlift electoral materials to three locations in the North East, South East, and South West geo-political zones for bye and re-run elections ².
The Nigerian Air Force’s involvement is part of its constitutional responsibility to provide Military Aid to Civil Authority. This commitment was reiterated by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, during a meeting with INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood yakubu.
