Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja for the United States to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). President Bola Tinubu directed Shettima to lead the Nigerian delegation, allowing the President to focus on pressing domestic issues, including the recent flood disaster.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in key meetings, and engage in bilateral discussions. The UNGA’s theme is “Leaving no one behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”
The session will take place from September 24 to 28. Shettima’s attendance underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global cooperation and addressing pressing issues.
