Why we are not participating in Rivers LG election – PDP

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to boycott the upcoming local government election scheduled for October 5. According to the State PDP chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, the ongoing legal case initiated by the Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a major reason for this decision ¹.

Chukwuemeka, who is reportedly loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made this announcement during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt. The party recently conducted its congresses in the state after securing a legal victory in a case brought by the former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, David Omereji, and others. Notably, Omereji’s group is loyal to state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

This development comes amidst other controversies surrounding recent elections in Nigeria. For instance, the Adamawa State Chapter of the PDP alleged that the Edo State governorship election was “daylight robbery” and urged legal action ¹. Similarly, the PDP blasted Ganduje, warning against adopting the Edo strategy in Ondo.
