NBA demands probe into N15m bribery scandal involving Bobrisky, EFCC

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has demanded an immediate investigation into the N15 million bribery allegation against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This comes after Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claimed she paid a N15 million bribe to EFCC officials to drop a money laundering case against her.

The NBA described the allegations as disturbing and commended the EFCC for its timely decision to probe the matter. However, they demanded an independent investigation by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Key Demands:

  • Independent Investigation: The NBA wants an independent investigation to determine whether the bribe was paid or if bribes are commonly paid to influence charges.
  • Transparency: The association seeks transparent details on the conditions under which Bobrisky served her sentence.
  • Accountability: Any person found complicit must face the full weight of the law.

The NBA also expressed concern over allegations involving Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin Falana, Esq. (aka FALZ). However, Femi Falana has denied these allegations.

The association emphasized that applying for a presidential pardon is a legitimate legal recourse, but it must follow due procedure and be devoid of influence peddling or unethical practices.

The NBA reassures the public that they will monitor the investigations closely to ensure transparency and accountability.
