Nurses in Ondo State are seeking salary parity with doctors, warning of potential disharmony in the healthcare system if the disparity persists. The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives made this call during the 2024 Ondo Nurses Week/Scientific Conference.
State chairman Akintobi Orobode noted that doctors’ salaries were recently reviewed to match federal levels, excluding other health workers. He emphasized nurses’ crucial role, citing their 24/7 patient care and vulnerability to attacks.
Orobode expressed confidence that Governor Aiyedatiwa would address their concerns, having submitted a formal letter. The Special Adviser on Health Matters, Prof. Simidele Odimayo, assured that salary structure reviews are ongoing.
Commissioner for Health Dr. Banji Ajaka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare workers’ welfare, stressing teamwork and synergy.
