China Strengthens Partnership with Nigeria, Pledges Increased Investments
China has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria, promising closer cooperation and significant investments in infrastructure, trade, and economic growth. Chinese Ambassador Yu Dunhai made the announcement at a ceremony celebrating China’s 75th anniversary.
Yu highlighted Nigeria’s importance as China’s largest engineering contracting market and third-largest trading partner in Africa, with a $22.5 billion trade volume in 2023. He emphasized the fruitful results of their practical cooperation in areas like infrastructure, investment, trade, agriculture, and green energy.
The ambassador noted that President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to China marked a new milestone, elevating their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This agreement paved the way for joint initiatives, including critical infrastructure development and increased collaboration in green energy and technology.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas commended China’s progress and longstanding partnership with Nigeria, highlighting China’s transformation since 1949. Abbas praised China’s economic development, technological innovation, and social progress.
